W. Meredith Morris recorded Alfred T. Dixon as a "contemporary violinist who makes violins en amateur, I have not seen any of his work, but it is said to be excellent". He was born in Dover, and may have moved to London for a while, but in 1901 he was a carpenter's apprentice. In 1910 he was found at "Cremona", Liverpool Street Dover, as an importer of fine stringed instruments, violin maker, repairer, expert and collector, as well as musical director of the Lord Warden Hotel, and in th 1914 census his occupation is as a violinist and music teacher. He is found with the same position in 1920, but served in the First World War as a gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery. Advertisement from the Dover Express, 16 September 1910 given below.
