THE DEATH OF A FAMOUS VIOLIN MAKER. 

The death is announced, in his 53rd year, or the famous violin maker and expert, Mr. George Hart. He was a son of the late John Thomas Hart, the celebrated violin maker and collector, who was born early in the century, was a fellow workmanship with Gilkes, who died on New Year's Day, 1874. Mr George Hart studied at the Royal Academy of Music under the late Sir George Macfaren and M. Sainton, and became a first-rate violinist. It was, however, as a maker, and more particularly as a judge of the value of old violins, that he was best known. His volume "The Violin, its Famous Makers, and their Imitators," first issue in 1875, is acknowledged to be the standard wok on the subject ; and besides running through three English editions, it has been accorded the on our of a French translation. Mr. George Hart was also the author of "The Violin and its Music," published ten years since.
