The Scotsman, 27 April 1825 and across the general press, there is a satirical anecdote: The following is on a violin-maker's sign-board at Limerick : - "New villins mad here and old ones rippard, also new heads, ribs, backs, and bellys mad at the shortest notice. - N.B. new guts of the best quality. Shoes mended, &c. Pat O'Shognassey painter. This may be spurious, and the violin maker non-existent, for the same satire is published in the Leicester Journal on 16 August 1839, attributing the sign to the Limehouse maker, John Whitherington, also likely non-existent.
