Aldred, John

John Aldred
fl.1918-22
London & Buffalo NY.

Born in Boston, Lincolnshire, Joseph Wenberg states that he learned violin making in London from Charles Jewitt, and also studied in Edinburgh (whether the latter applies to violin making is unclear). He established in Buffalo New York by 1906 producing a few Stradivari and Guarneri model violins. He also pinched labels from violins. An account of his fetish is given in the Buffalo Commercial of 7 August 1908. Nothing is known of his work in England and Scotland.
