Henley reports: Born 1842. Amateur at Pilling (Lancashire). Actively enjoying his hobby, 1924. Made several violins (some good, some indifferent), mainly for experimental purposes. Tried absolutely flat 'deck' with arched back; also two sound-posts etc., and various originalities in form and thicknesses of wood. Colour and quality of varnish not very attractive.
